Hi all,

I have a question regarding whether or not it is necessary to upgrade my current iPhone 4's software to iOS6 if I'm about to upgrade to an iPhone5. I will be doing a restore from iTunes of my data when I initially set up my new iPhone 5 when it comes....my current iPhone 4 has iOS 5.1.1 but doesn't have enough free space to do the upgrade to iOS6. I want to know if this is really necessary anyway, since I am not going to be continuing to use this phone when my new iPhone 5 arrives. I know you can't upgrade devices if the one you're upgrading FROM has newer software than the one you're upgrading TO...just wondering if it matters in the opposite situation.

Thanks for your input,
Kevin

No, upgrading is not necessary, especially if you're going to purchase the iPhone 5. Having said that, if the iPhone 5 will become your primary device, why not upgrade your iPhone 4? Of course, you won't get as many features associated with iOS 6 as you would with the 4S and the iPhone 5, but you may be pleased with it.
