Why have I lost all my contacts (iPhone 4S iOS7)?

I think this is the 4th time that i lost all my contact persons, well not all, like 10 contacts were still there. I can't find out why these few contacts stay there and the rest is lost. I think the same contact persons survived the first 3 times.
I got my contacts back with a backup.

This is beginning to be really annoying, does anyone have the same problem or know how to fix this?

I don't know either. Having said that, associate the contacts with an email account. That way, they will always be in sync and easily retrievable should you need to restore your device or something.

Are contacts turned on for iCloud? Were there any Gmail or other email account contacts? Check in Settings > iCloud > turn contacts on. Check email in Settings and turn contacts on.
