Verizon iPhone4s GSM innards are carrier unlockable for use outside of North America only... search Gevey simunlock - supposedly those will do an unlock and be able to use AT&T in the US.

The Verizon4S is GSM capable outside the US if unlocked by Verizon... and allegedly, Gevey sims and similar products will unlock a Verizon 4S for domestic GSM use.

Yes a Verizon iPhone 4S will work with AT&T or any US GSM provider with a GEVEY. The only downfall is it will not work on iOS6 unless it's 6.1.3, but the phone has to be JB'd and there is no untethered JB for 6.1.3. If the 4S is on iOS 5 upto 5.1.1 it will support it and will work with a GSM carrier. I know because I set one up on iOS 5.0.1.

I'm using a Verizon 4S with Gevey sim imposer on T-Mobile USA right now. It works well. I was on 5.0.1 iPhone 4S an it worked. On another iPhone 4S with 5.1.1, it works also. I understand the that Gevey has imposers for iOS 6.x and iOS 5.x so choose carefully.

I had to jailbreak for the phone to recognize the sim card. They say you need to install furiousmod to get Gevey to work, I didn't and it still works.

I also disabled the Verizon CDMA antenna, as recommended by a forum, so the phone can default to GSM networks a la T-Mobile.
