I was just daydreaming about this today, and I wonder.. does anyone ever see NFC coming to the 4S? It would have to be in the form on an accessory-type case (much like an extended battery case), but I wonder if the hardware even exists in the phone to make that kind of setup work.

We all know that software is software, and can be more easily updated, so i'm not as worried about that.

    What do you think??

It is not likely. There would have to be an associated app and Apple generally doesn't allow apps that copy or compete with their functionality. This would be cool, but I just don't see the software part being accessible.

Doubt we'll see it on the 4S, however, I definitely see it on the New iPhone: New iPhone prototypes have NFC chips and antenna | 9to5Mac | Apple Intelligence

No, they will need to make sure the iPhone (New) sets itself aside besides just physical size changes, and the NFC will be a big turning point for people to decide to upgrade to the new phone. However the new iPhone will need to have something very special to make me change from the 4S. I have way too much invested in docks and cases to deal with a new phone size and port.
