pics from phone to macbook?

is there anywhere to show step by step setup to push photos to the macbook auto like i see them show?

1. Turn on Photostream on your iPhone.
2. Turn on Photostream in iPhoto on your Mac.
3. Watch it happen just like on tv.

Personally, the cost of using iPhoto is too high. I wouldn't use iPhoto if it were the last photo viewing app on earth. Heck, I'd go back to Windows before resorting to using iPhoto on my Mac!
