Message (or whatever fits) default screen

Does anybody know a way to set the default screen in message to be the message home screen? when I click the message icon it jumps immediately to the last place I was, which typically is in a message thread.

Unless I totally don't understand your question, you hit the "messages" button (top left) before closing the message app and when you reopen it, you will be in the main/in box.

Or close the app, from quick launch, so it's no longer saving your place.
