    Hey guys,

    What is the best way for me to exchange a 4S I ordered online? I got a 16gb but now have decided I want a 32gb. I do not want to send the phone back and be without it for a week while I wait for a new one because I already sold my old phone.

    Any ideas? The apple store I went to today said they could not do this.

    Bought online thru Apple? Here's their policy

    iPhone Return Policy
    If you are not fully satisfied with your iPhone purchase, you can return your undamaged iPhone to the Apple Online Store within 30 days of purchase for a full refund. Please visit online Order Status or call 1-800-676-2775 to request a return. The iPhone must be returned in the original packaging, including any accessories, manuals, and documentation.

    I have a somewhat similar question. I pre-ordered a 4s online from AT&T but it is backordered so I went into a local radioshack this morning and purchased one. I asked an at&t rep if I could cancel the pre-order and was told no and that I would have to wait for it to arrive and send it back. So I asked, since I'm getting I will have it once it arrives can I just give it to a family member that isn't due for an upgrade to use on their line and what is the cost and I was told that I would only be charged the 199 even though the family member is due for an upgrade. Does this sound correct to any of you? Doesn't seem correct to me but if it is then it would be nice gift for a family member.

    Your options as I see it:

    1. Send phone back to Apple Online store and live without a phone for a week
    2. Live with the 16GB version
    3. Buy 32GB at carrier or Apple store locally, then send 16GB version back to Apple Online store
    4. Buy a cheap used phone or borrow one from a friend for the week until your 32GB phone arrives

    Sorry that wasn't what you wanted to hear, however, since you purchased your phone from Apple online, what was posted is their official return policy. What you could do is if you have a local Apple store in your area, you could call them and see if they would allow you to exchange the 16GB model that you purchased online for the 32GB model in the store. If they don't allow online purchases to be exchanged in the store, call the number that was given in the link above and set up a return/exchange before you run out of time.
