    Freakin' A T & T. This is worse than the wait for the UPS guy.
    AT&T has more iPhone users, more activation traffic and apparently less preparation.

    I am on try 8. If I can't get it, Im just going to have to wait til I get home and do it there on my iTunes. I need to ship my current phone to my friend by 5pm

    So now I'm trying to activate over iTunes and it goes straight to "Set Up Your iPhone" and wants me to restore from backup. Seems to me it should activate first.

    Well, after 4 hours, I called up AT&T. Apparently, the reason my activation was having problems was because they had to manually add the components of my contract back in the system, i.e. my data and messaging plans. As we were talking, my 4S started to display "no service." She told me the activation would complete didn't. So I'm trying again for the second time since that call.

    The moral of the story? Had I not called, she said I would have been upset for about two days, because of the lag in the system. So if you're having issues, just call and double-check to make sure they don't have to manually put stuff back on the account.

    I'll update again once I'm actually having a conversation with Siri.

    i called AT&T and she said she can replace my IEID over the phone but it could take 24 hours to update or I can keep trying iTunes every 2 hours -____-

    I am on the phone with AT&T and was told that you have to call them to activate your sim. When Apply shipped the phone, AT&T doesn't know your sim number, the ICCID # located on the sim itself or on the box. Once AT&T enters you sim number, you will be good to go with them, but still have to wait for the Apple activation.

    Once AT&T did their activations, I was able to get some bars or service on the phone which I didn't have before. I still can not make calls yet, and now my old sim is deactivated, but at least I am home and don't need my cell for a while.

    I don't know if this step has to be done, but according to the woman I spoke to, if you preordered from Apple, it does. I didn't ask about AT&T preorders, but I would guess it is the same.

    when you connect your phone to itunes it will relay that information to the server so it will know your information.

    The activation servers are down and this is why it is taking so long to get activated!

    Soo many people got iphones it overloaded the network!

    Within 10 minutes of getting off the phone with AT&T, my phone activated. I had not connected to iTunes before that, so I don't know how that would have worked. Whatever, my phone is restored and working!!

    Mine did finally work with AT&T this morning after the 3rd try. I am thinking I am lucky since I had my phone by 10AM, I'm sure not everyone else did yet so the servers weren't as bad as they likely are later in the day.

    I finally synced with iTunes all my apps, music, etc (took nearly 5 hours) and now I'm starting to play with my new toy!

    I guess stuck working all day isn't that bad afterall if they aren't getting activated. It's going to be pushing eight before I get to crack the box on mine.

    My phone is set to my son's number. His was an upgrade, mine was a new line on a family plan. We ordered through apple online. Phone says "if this is not your phone number, call apple"

    Update: operator error, the phone number that came up was the main number on our family account....I risked accepting thr wrong number and it worked. Used the verizon *228 and set it up with the right number.

    Finally after 4.5, my phone is activated and getting loaded. I got the 64gb!

    Now I can finally do things I've put off doing since this morning: eating.

    I don't know if this was a coincidence or not, but after trying to activate my phone for approximately 6 hours, I turned it off for about a minute and turned it back on. It activated on the first try with the 3g connection.

    I tried activating on my own this morning. It arrived shortly before 10 AM. After about 3 hours of waiting I just said the hell with it and went to the AT&T store. They were able to activate it for me. I'd imagine the swarms of people trying to activate their phones at the same time might have contributed to my difficulties.

    What was truly funny, though, is that when I was being assisted at the AT&T store, my information never got loaded into the computer from their queueing system, so the lady was looking at the information for some guy named David. I don't know how she managed to not notice that I was, in fact, not David, especially after I handed her my ID. Needless to say, I ordered from Apple so apparently the activation process was doomed from the start. She ended up giving me a new SIM card. But since she had the wrong phone number and was thus working with the wrong account info, she ended up totally wiping out poor David's SIM card. I'd imagine he'll probably be making a trip to the store sooner rather than later.

    After failing the first 4 attempts, I went on to other things... came back an hour later and it activated the first attempt. Life is good.

    My advice: just be patient. And don't believe all the posts about issue with your SIM, account provisioning or any of that... the servers are just flat buried in traffic and requests.

    I ended up going to the ATT store tonight after over 10 hours of trying. It took them a while too. What actually worked was them taking out the SIM card it came with, putting in a new one, restarting, the computer finally registered my SIM that it came with. They popped it out, replaced it with my original, back in business.

    Well sounds like I am the only one that has experienced this problem. So when I first got it gave me the same error everyone else was having, so I decided to call ATT and see if they could do something to give it a push. Well this representative asked for my imei and ICCID and then she updated in the system and told me to try and again and it would work.....well needless to say it made things worse. It says that my SIM card does not match the one of my account. Neither Apple nor AT&T are 100% sure whats wrong and keep telling me to wait. This is ridiculous!

    Twice I have had my phone say there was no sim, when of course there was. The first time was while I was still on with AT&T, so she had me pull the sim and make sure the number was the same on the sim as I had read her from the box, which it was. When I put the sim back in, the phone recognized it.

    It happened again a few hours later; pulled the sim again and it started working. I am hoping it isn't a bad sim or the tray that hold the sim. I will give it a few days and if it continues to happen, I will try getting the sim switched first and then the phone if needed.

    It took me HOURS of trying and trying. I finally turned it off and back on and also plugged it into iTunes to try that. After two or three tries it FINALLY activated!!!
