Should we cycle the battery for the 1st few times? i know with my droid it helped not sure if it helps with Iphone

Just keep the electrons moving. Use the phone regularly. And at least once or twice a month. Run the battery down all the way and than let it charge to 100% before using it. And this is really all the maintenance you need to do. I don't know when my actual 4S was made. But I'm going to run the battery down to at least 20% and charge to 100% first round.

I know it is just from Apple, but I really dislike that guide. Basically, if you turn everything off, your battery will last longer.

Part of it sure but there is more to it. Everything you can possibly know to have better battery life is there. Plain and simple. That's it.
