I've seen it in some pics on the white model but not on the black.

It's the proximity sensor. It's there on the black version also, you just can't see it due to it matching the color of the phone.

Some sensors tend to have issues with screen protectors, I take it this won't be an issue?

I'm sure the new screen protectors or at least the good ones will have an opening for it to not give a conflict of its ability to work right.

It is the proximity sensor, which to my knoweledge is slightly changed from the one in the Black iPhone. But either way, that White iPhone is SEXY

It's definitely a sensor. I had the same question when I saw it for the first time but I looked long and hard into the face of my ip4 an it's there. Like someone already said, it's just harder to see because it's black on black.

I put an invisible shield on my girlfriends white iPhone 4 and it never created an issue with the proximity sensor. The only snag I ran into was using otter box cases since it interferes with the whites sensor. It doesnt look like it covers it up, but it doesn't allow the sensor to shut the screen off.
