Can the light in an iPhone4 be replaced?

The screen light has gotten very dim. It is hard to see things & read texts & email.

Welcome to iMore! The backlight can be replaced but, considering the age of the phone, it may not be worth the expense. If it were me I would call it a day and look into a replacement.

Are you sure you have the brightness turned all of the way up in Settings > Display & Brightness?
