What should I do?

When I plug my IPhone 4 into my laptop to charge, sync &/or check for updates, iTunes no longer opens and all I get is a charged phone. How do I fix this so my phone syncs and checks for updates?

Welcome to iMore. I have had this issue in the past once and iTunes was the problem after an update to it. Next update to iTunes solved it for me. Was not a common problem for a lot of people so could not find a solution. What I did was to manually open iTunes, which showed my phone was connected, and just sync it manually. Never had an issue getting it to sync, just that iTunes would not open when I connected my iPhone to my iMac. I even questioned this problem on Apple's forums and never did get an answer to what the problem was. I realize this may not be what is causing your problem, but hopefully this will give you a workaround in the meantime, or till some other suggestions are offered to you.

Also have you tried a different cable? Could be another possibility.
