usb data pins for charging

Hey there,

I want to charge my iPhone from a 5 V power source. I know I need to do something with the usb data pins so the iPhone accepts the power input.
However I?m not shure what to do. Mintyboost tells me to do this http://www.ladyada.net/images/mintyboost/usb4res500mA.gif

I have a Palm Pre wall charger that does work with my iPhone 4. It seems to me I can just short circuit the data pins and my iPhone starts charging.

Has anyone ever tried to do something similar?

problem solved: the data pins just need to be short circuited and it works.
