I'm going to be in Death Valley for a week. I would like to use my iPhone's GPS, but without the phone constantly searching for a signal. Is there any way to turn off the phone without turning off the GPS. I believe airplane mode turns off both.

Thanks, Ron

Just posted this on the thread mentioned above, but I thought it might help you as well-

When traveling abroad (or anywhere that you don't want to use your cellular data), I have had success using the GPS on my iPhone 4 by only turning off Cellular Data (Settings-General-Network-Cellular Data toggle). In my case, I also set Data Roaming to off. This, in conjunction with any offline maps app (I used CityMaps2Go, which works well for basic maps w/o turn-by-turn directions), works just fine without having to turn on Airplane Mode.

Thanks, turning off the Cellular Data is exactly what I was looking for. I'm using MotionX-GPS and it has some great maps for back roads and hiking. Thanks again for the help.
