iPhone4 unable to play music

My friend recently got an iphone and was converting songs from cd to put inside it. but no matter what format (acc or apple lossless or mp3) the iphone was unable play it. the phone just shows that it is trying to play and then went back to playlist immediately.
anyone had the same thing happen to u or knows what happen?

Are they Synced to phone using iTunes ?

We're gonna need a little more info...

-did you use iTunes to 'rip' the CD(s)? [as @peligro911 brought up]
-do the songs play normally on your computer?
-do the songs play normally on iTunes?
-are the problematic songs all ripped from the same CD? Or, were multiple CD's ripped?
-do songs that weren't ripped from a CD play on the iPhone?
