Hi all,

Gearing up for a trip to Quebec and need to decide on what sort of plans to add to our 2 iphone lines before leaving. I'm considering adding the 50MB plan to my girlfriend's line and just leaving mine in Airplane the whole time. She's a bigger texter, and would like to be able to use her Google Voice number for SMS while out and about. Based on our past usage it seems like 50MB will be more than enough to get us through our one-week trip.

That said, I'm wondering how common public wifi hotspots are in Canada (and specifically Quebec) as I'd like to be able to occasionally check email, upload some photos to Facebook, etc. Will I run across open connections in coffee shops and so on, or should I consider adding a second data plan for myself?

Thanks for the advice!

Are you talking about Qu?bec city (as opposed to the entire province)?

Restaurants --> Quebec - Quebec - Canada - Free WiFi Spots
--> Free Wi-Fi Restaurants - Quebec | Urbanspoon

Hotels --> Quebec City - Hotels with Internet and free WiFi

As a rule, Canada still lags when it comes to public WiFi, but we're getting better. Be careful in Montreal (if you are going there), many hotels charge fees (extortion) for so-so WiFi, though you might be able to connect in the lobbies for free.

Enjoy your trip. Qu?bec is absolutely gorgeous at this time of the year.
