After a while of considering it I'm making the change today. My iphone 4 should be in soon. I have been a Droid user for the past year and a half and I'll miss the gmail total sync (draft syncing is the biggest thing), LED notifications in CyanogenMod and gchat but I figured now is a good time to try the iphone out and see how I can manage with just the soft keyboard

I use my GPS a lot on my Droid, I'm wondering what you all recommend as a replacement for Google Maps turn by turn directions? Jury is still out on jailbreaking this as I've already got a jailbroken 64GB ipod touch 3rd gen...but I assume most GPS apps don't need that.

I use Mapquest for Mobile and I've heard Waze is pretty good. In my opinion they aren't as good as Google Navigation but they are decent.

Ah thats a shame. I might just look into a dedicated GPS unit at some point soon but I'll try Mapquest out today once the phone comes in. Thanks for the info.

Yes MapQuest makes for a good backup to Google maps on the iPhone. It has a nice set of features for a free service. Also you can setup your trip on your computer at MapQuest.com and have it synced over to the app.

I prefer a GPS app that keeps a map on the device itself so you're not tied to wifi or the cellular network - if you run out of a connection for a time, cached apps may run out of map data, and you're navigation is useless. That said, TomTom is ok, Navigon is better. Both put a full map on your iOS device, and if you have an iPad too - Navigon rocks on it.

I highly recommend MotionX. 0.99 cents for the app and $19.99 for the voice navigation for a whole year. I had the VZ navigation, but this one beats it hands down and it is cheaper. VZ charged me $10 on a non-smartphone phone. Now they charge $5/month. I would rather pay $1.75 per month for the motionX.

I tested Mapquest 4 Mobile last night and much to my satisfaction I didn't get lost. I'll check out some of these other options too though, thanks again everybody, nice to see this forum is so helpful.
