Afternoon all, this is my first post and will admit I am a BlackBerry user here to help a family member.

He has the original 3G 8GB and yesterday the touch screen stopped responding to touch and the phone is locked.

I read through some other threads and did the sleep/home button reset, and nothing. I did an OS upgrade hoping that a reboot would help it, and nothing.

Do i assume the digitizer is gone? are there any other tricks/tips?

    Thank you in advance,
    Fubaz

That sounds really wonky... I would have them take it to an Apple Store. They will check it for free, and be able to tell you what the problem is. If they can fix it, they will, too, at no cost (unless it requires new parts).

my closest Apple store is 1.5 hours each way from my house roughly.

    Not truely an option.

Should he just go buy a new phone?

Should he get the digitizer replaced?
