    TiPb Pals:

Over the last few months I have been getting increasing spam sent to me by text message. I don't see an easy way to block it on this phone. Any suggestions? I am not jailbroken.

Good question. I've also been getting the texts and I've started getting calls from Vegas saying 'this is your credit card company. Press 9 to lower your interest rate to 6%' but they never say who they are and I won't hit 9...when I call the number back from a blocked number, it's busy.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a good answer here. There is no way to use a white list of some kind on the phone, or the Verizon account. There is no way to set up a silent notification tone if they aren't in your address book. In short, I can't find a solution here. Anybody?

I called about the texting spam at one point - are you getting texts from a 5 digit number or a 10 digit? Do they say 'text stop to stop messages' at the end?

    All of the above.

Me too. Call Verizon because they can do something about the 10 digit numbers. The five digit numbers they can't.

They can't do anything about the 10 digit numbers. You have to do it by number. But then they change numbers, and you get texted again. Doesn't work.

Jailbreak & get iBlacklist. It has a whitelist feature as well so you can set it up to only get calls, texts, or mms from people on your white list, or your address book.

OK, that looks like the solution. I have avoided jailbreaking, but looks like if I want to solve this, that is the way. Thanks!

If it's a 5 digit, just send Stop to it and then you can have the premium sms block put on.

Jailbreaking is great anyway, you'll find all kinds of nifty stuff you can do with you phone. Its like opening a treasure box!

Also if you login to your Verizon accnt online there is a section where you can put in numbers to block from calls/text think it allows 5-6 #s

Not for iPhones. I did that when I had a BB Tour - but going to the iPhone made that go away.

It's like those jokes of the day or whatever where you get charged by some 3rd party company.
