iPhone 4 contacts...help please

I'm going to unjailbreak my wifes phone bc it's acting up.

1. Can I just right click and hit back up before restoring and that will save her contacts?

2. If I sync them in iTunes with gmail and type in her account (gmail) info will that put all her contacts into gmail?

3. Is there another way?

Thanks everyone, she has atleast 100 numbers and she would kick my butt if I lost them (can't say I would blame her)

All you have to do is number 1, yes you are correct. You should also sync after the backup and transfer the purchases. Then you get to work, if anything happend you would restore and iTunes would ask if you want to restore from your backup. This will put back all the contacts on the phone but you'll be fine. You planning to use Greenpois0n? Just make sure you do a search here to see problems you might encounter and how you could fix it.
