Pandora, iPod etc on iPhone?

I remember on my blackberry once I started pandora, to shut it down I had to hit menu and shut down pandora option. On my iPhone, I have only noticed a pause key and now way to "Shut Down" the app. Is this the way to do this? Also for my ipod part of the phone I hit pause as well, I just wanna make sure I dont start running my battery down with open apps. Also, is there a way to use songs on my iPod part of the phone as ringtones? Thanks

1. The background apps don't use any more battery. The state is saved and not draining the battery.

2. To close any app that is open, double tap the home button and the multi-tasking menu will open. Press and hold on any open app in that menu and they will start wiggling. Hit the red X in the corner to end any app.
