Out of box available memory?

How much memory do you actually have available when you buy the 16 gb or 32gb? How much does the operating system and whatever else take up. Trying to choose between 16 or 32

Around 28. That is due to the way they measure GBs in advertising as well as the OS and other system files.

I had 14 available on the 16 with the the 4.2.6 update.

4.2.6 update? Didn't know there was anything higher than 4.2.1 out yet. Edit Nevermind. It's the CDMA version of 4.2.1.

For hard drive space, you will have about 93% of the total drive capacity (this is true of any drive) after formatting.

So on a 16GB you should have 14.88GB usable, on a 32 GB you should have about 29.76GB usable.

I believe about 2.3 is taken up with OS and system files. The 32 has 29.7 available. 16GB should have about the same taken up. You'd have more than 12GB available but not much more.
