iTunes itself does not have an address book. It is a conduit to sync to an existing address book on a Mac, or Outlook/other mail programs on Windows. If you have everything in one of those, you can sync to an iPhone...

Or, if you have VZW's back-up assistant, you can download what's on your current phone to the BUA web site, then fetch a CSV file from that, and import the CSV file into Outlook, or other email program/address book that iTunes will sync with.

You can also go through the Gmail web site and export your contacts to a CSV file, or V-card file to import into another mail/address app and sync via iTunes.

I set up our Address Book on the MacBook this weekend. It worked great.

I had to download the BB Software, as we always used our PC before. I was able to import my husbands & I's contacts, edit a few and save to different "groups". I synced them onto the iPad & iPod Touch to make sure everything would work right. I have a single user MobileMe account and was able to sync our iCal & Address Book w/ the iMac. I didn't try, but I'm hoping there's a way to sync these to "the cloud" of MobileMe, specifically the calendar to set bill reminders and have the updated on all iDevices. Guess I need to research that more.
