I'm only a family plan and will use my husband's upgrade now (eligible on Feb 10) - he could care less about a new phone. Then when the new phones are introduced this summer if it's something spectacular I will upgrade my line, get the new every two credit and give the iPhone 4 to my daughter.

I'll be paying full retail the iPhone on day one since I'm not currently eligible for an upgrade. I find it hard to believe that Apple would release an iPhone 5 on Verizon this summer as that's only 3-4 months after releasing the iPhone 4 for VZW. I'm eligible for an upgrade on my line in July so even if that's the case, I'll be fine and wouldn't have to pay full retail twice.

I also have a second line that I added to a family share plan just to get a new phone that will be eligible for an upgrade in May. I was thinking of canceling it once the contract is up but it may be worth it to keep the upgrade since I only pay $12 per month after putting a dumb phone on that line.

Get it now then sell on eBay when i5 comes out. At most you'll spend what the normal upgrade pricing is. I've done it with every release. Can't go wrong.

    This is my plan, too.

after jan 16 you no longer get the mew every 2 credit and can no longer upgrade annually on a 2 year contract

Is there an announced date for this Apple Event in June/July or are we all getting our hopes up and banking on there being an iPhone 5 released?
There has been no date announced for Iphone 5 yet.

I'll be getting this when it comes out assuming:

    1) I can do a 1 year contract. I don't want 2 years of this when great other phones are coming out left and right.

2)The data plan is $30 a month, unlimited. Anything more than that, no thanks.

Hopefully those come true and I can own a sweet iphone!

Im getting it now for a few reasons. 1. I don't know how verizon will price 4g phones, no point in paying extra for service i can't use. 2. Im a geek and need my gadgets NOW lol. and 3. I keep my phones very clean. So if they do come out with a 4g phone, depending on the pricing, i can just sell my iphone and pick up the new one.

Because the signs point to the first edition iPhone 5 being the GSM version. With a CDMA version that would work on Verizon coming later in the year or early next year. Also the iPhone 5 will probably be a 4G or LTE device that will require a more expensive data plan or some type of extra fees. And with the 4G or LTE network not being widespread yet it does not make much sence to hold out for that when the 3G version that will work awesome on todays network is available now. Or at least next month. Just my two cents.......

I'm not slamming the Verizon iPhone because I'm likely to jump on 2/10 also. But the thing to keep in mind is The iPhone 4 is at the END of it's product cycle. Think about it, what other top tier phones out there are 8months old? The Nexus One? The Droid? We all know that the iphone 4 is ahead of the curve so it's still very relavant in todays market, but this isn't science fiction and theres no magic or time travel involved in creating this 2010 device.. In comparison to the 2011 crop of devices the competitors have caught up to and surpassed the iPhone hardware. So how smart is it to jump on regardless of a new iPhone just around the corner and new Terms of Service created specifically to block us from getting it.

Using that theory you would never get a new phone. There are always something better with more power and faster coming out it seems like every 3 to 6 months.

There is nothing to say that there will be an lte version. Although waiting for the iPhone 5 maybe an idea as it isn't all that far away!

The difference is that the iphone 4 will continue to get updates where as android phones you never know after a few months. But i mean if you think its outdated hardware then you can wait for the iphone 5 but ill stick with the iphone 4 and cheaper plans

Then again, that's the beauty of the whole thing ... Nobody knows, I do know however that Apple Products retain their value very well. So if it were me, I would enjoy the latest version, and when the new one comes out, sell it and buy the next version. I have been doing this for years with my iPhone and always upgrade to the next version for about $100 ... Which is great IMHO.
