hi, newbie iphone barred

hi, everyone i have just bought my first iphone 4, from ebay i think it may be barred, dont worry i am not going to ask how to unbar it i was just wondering if it could be something i am doing wrong. i bought the phone on ebay and went to collect and pay cash for the phone it was brand new still with the cellophane. it is on t-mobile i have put my t-mobile simcard in and i cannot make any calls in or out i cant even even make an emergency call. i did however have my number switched to the new micro sim and they said it could take 24hours to start working again, but surely i should be able to make an emergency call.

Sounds like it could be sim locked.

If you bought it in the US, it would be carrier locked (only works on AT&T)

Yup...sounds like a sim lock, which tells me the eBay seller lied in their description if they said it was unlocked...if the sim simply wasnt activated, it would let you know the sim card was "unknown" and that it needed to be sync'ed to iTunes...

I assume the Tmobile sim was a micro sim with adaptor, correct?
