A buddy found an iPhone 3G (I think)and wants to get it back to the owner. It is locked with a passcode. Is there a way to by-pass the code so we can try to figure out who it belongs to? There is not an AT&T store close by to help.
Is there a way to get the IMEI without getting into the phone?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
the problem here is most people are not going to help you do to the suspisius nature of trying to bypass pass codes try this that was submitted by Andrew Wray (IRoo) for the main site http://www.tipb.com/2010/10/25/ios-4...-locked-iphone
Try this. This only works on 4.0 or 4.1, and there is no way for you to tell until you try this. Press emergency call, dial ### and press call. If the phone uses 4.0, 4.01, 4.02 or 4.1, you'll have access to their contacts and such.

If not, then oh well.
Yes doing this will let you into the address book, then just look for "Home" etc.
Who knows, they may have MobileMe and find you hah

You're nearly right. It's only 4.1 and it doesn't matter what number you dial in emergency call as long as you push the top lock button instantly afterwards.
