App Store notifications

Why doesn't the app store app push notification badges when you have new updates waiting? I know it's not that much of a hassle to just open the app up and check (and then the badge appears on the icon), but it just seems like such a simple thing that apple would have included.

I have often wondered about this myself! Not sure why they would not implement this-

It may take a few months before we see this, but it would be nice. Local notifications were only just released with iOS4, so we should allow some time for them to implement it as they desire. (If at all.)

Push notifications would be impractical for this, as it would require too much device to server interaction for the millions of iOS devices out there. Local notifications would be the only solution that makes sense from Apple's standpoint.

I would be highly surprised if they didn't add this feature. It seems like a lot of people are asking for it, and you're right Karrott, local notifications would be the only logical solution.
