the problem may be that most companies havent adopted the iphone unless the employees agree to buy it themselves and ems and fire arent the most profitable of jobs (even if they deserve to be) im a nurse and those of us that have the iphone arent allowed to use them while on duty (or any cell phone really as its a distractor and a potential conflict with the emergency systems we use in the hospital )

Really? interesting a conflict with the system? Hmm in all of our hospitals they use cell phones all over..and they say they are high tech...interesting...

you can use them in most parts of the hospital but i work in ICU and we have some very sensative machinery in there... im sure its more like the using a phone on an airplane: ait hasnt been proven to affect but the FAA would rather not take an chances

I'm a respiratory therapist and many of us (RN, RRT and MD's) carry cells (iPhones and blackberrys). Critical care equipment is quite well shielded when it comes to RF. The last journal artical that I read many years ago stated that you had to be within 1 inch of the back of a vent when the phone was activated (ie ringing) to affect the vent. It went on to say that the "walkie-talkies" that maintenance personell used had more affect. This artical was published before our vents underwent upgrades to the RF shielding.

We choose how to receive our alerts from dispatch - recorded phone call/sms/email. I always go with sms on the iPhone.
