Phone - "Recents" list ?

New to iPhone. I see there is a "clear" button to clear all recent calls from the "recents" list. Is there a way to selectively erase from the list? Do they drop off after a period of time or a limit as to how many can be in the list? I looked in the user guide and couldn't find this.

Unfortunately there's no way to selectively remove off the recent call list

Do they ever drop off or is hitting "clear" the only way to remove them?

well, I have calls going back to 6/24/10 on there...not sure if they drop off, I never really scrolled down the list on my previous phone.

I haven't encountered the recent calls list being pruned automatically. However I don't think that it would last one year or so.
