I use the line out (30 pin connector) to plug into my car stereo. On my 3G, once the 30 pin connector was plugged in, all volume control was done through the head unit. Now with iP4 OR iOS4 (I don't know which one) the head unit controls the volume as normal but the volume buttons on the phone also control volume output. Not sure if I like this.

What controlled the output volume of the actual phone itself before?

I know this is apples/oranges, but I use an aux jack. When plugged in
the output volume on my ipod/iphone was always controlled through
the ipod itself. The head units controlled the volume of my audio in
my truck.

So what you're saying is that yours is essentially working the same
as mine is, right?

BTW this is happening with Bluetooth Streaming also.
Before the volume was controlled via head unit only as it should be with any line out device so that the signal does not get double amped. So yes it is working as if it is connected to the headphone jack.

I think it's more of a hardware issue than a software issue then. It's basically working like
mine does when it's just connected to the auxilary jack. It shouldn't be.
