Trying to sell my iPhone 3GS on Craigslist and have someone asking for the serial number to check the warranty. For some reason this seems kinda weird, but I dont really know. Is it safe to give out the serial number?

you could always send them a screenshot of the warranty info page and blur out the serial number. Not sure what they could do with it, but I don't even have my iphone yet, so I wouldn't know.

You could do what iErick said but leave part of the serial number visible then also send a screenshot of your phone's about page in the settings with the same part of the number visible.
