Reserving iPhone4 At Apple Store Confirmation - QUESTION

Hey TiPB-ers!

Quick question, if someone could answer this, I'd be grateful!

I "ordered"/reserved an iPhone 4 not to be delivered to my house, but to pick up at my local Apple Store. Of course, they didn't ask for any payment since I am just essentially reserving one and will pay for it upon pick up.

After completing all the information - in the new Apple Store App no less - I received the e-mail attached.

Is this all that needs to be done? Am I good to go to go stand in line on June 24 to pick up my reserved iPhone? I just wanted to ask you veterans at this because this is my first time pre-ordering AND I know AT&T and Apple servers have been obliterated by pre-orders today!

Thank you!

I've been reading other threads and it's looking like even us (who have reserved a phone only, not pre-paid) will have to wait in line and isn't guaranteed a phone. Looks like I'm gonna have to go to the apple store an hour or two earlier. What I'm wondering is... if were not guaranteed one, should we at least have some kind of priority alongside the people who just wait in line w/ out any reservation/pre-order? Because if not, then what was the point of making a reservation?

I reserved mine from the apple store app and in the app it says that an iPhone will be held for me until the end of the day. So I was under the impression that we are guaranteed one as long as we pick it up before the end of the day.

But then again I am also new to this process so I could be wrong.

you are reserved

I'm not 100% sure but it would be stupid if you reserved the phone and end up standing in line with walkins. I beleive there is a seperate line for preorders and reserved. However while preorders are already paid for so if they don't show up it will be held with a reservation if you don't come to pick it up at the time for reserved it will be put in with regular stock and sold to someone in line. So I would say go early and you will get your phone. Lucky }#>~|^* lol

Thanks for the responses guys! I actually called my local Apple Store here in Salt Lake City, UT. I explained my situation to the Apple employee and she said, "If you reserved an iPhone, we will have one for you here on June 24"

So take that as you will! But I think those of us who reserved one at the Apple store will probably be okay!

This thread has been super helpful. I had the same question except I actually paid for mine in the AT&T store. The part that bothered me was the fact that the system was down so my card was run manually but the funds have already been taken so on launch day ill raise hell if I don't get one. SN: I am a new convert to apple from crackberry nation glad I made the jump

Yup.....your phone will be held for you till the end of the business day. So you can show up whenever and pick it up! To be on the safe side, I would print out your email confirmation should any troubles arise. As for me, I have that day off. So I will be at my local store a couple hours before they open for the "launch day experience"....went through it at the launch of the 3G....it was pretty cool...!

Yep - this is how it was explained to me as well. Still heading in early :)
(luckily, our office is right next to an Apple Store)

Here in Silicon Valley, the home of Apple and many many geeks who buy everything iPhone, the procedure is three lines on a launch weekend: One for those who have reserved a phone, one for those who have not, and one for those who are not buying but browsing. obviously, those who reserve get them first and the others get any extras. There has to be a line for reserved phones, because we greatly out number the staff. My interpretation of the no guarantee would be for in the unlikely event that they just did not receive enough stock. Assuming they have, you have to close of business on your appointed day to pick up. I am describing the Apple Store procedure - haven't gone to AT&T.

Launch day 3GS had two lines- pre order and first come. It really went very quickly. They took the ordered ones at a much quicker pace until the lines were no longer necessary. I can't wait.

Yes... reserved is when you have it sent to the store.

Pre-Order (how they at Apple explained it to me) gets
sent to your house in which they charge your CC. I'm
not sure when they eventually charge it though.

I know I'll have mine on that day, but I want to be get
there early so I can get my sim updated and not have
any worries. Now I will be looking for a micro-sim
converter.

i tried and tried all night and day long to pre-order. best the system would do is let me reserve one at my local Apple store. I'm really hoping it is held.

With at&t preorders being done and apple.com showing a ship date of 7-2...this reservation is really my only hope at getting an iPhone anytime soon. I already called the store about the reservation and she said that there will be one held for me until the end of the day....we'll see.

What does your confirmation say? Mine says it will
be ready at 7am EST on June 24th.

@duvi... here is what it says.

When you come in to pick up your iPhone, you'll be part of an exciting launch at the Apple Retail Store. We'll have Specialists ready to transfer your contacts, set up email, and help you get apps so your iPhone is just the way you like it. We can't wait to see you at the store.

Sincerely,
The Apple Retail Store team
Pickup Date and Time
June 24 starting at 7:00 a.m.
Please note that your reservation will be held until close of business on June 24.
Pickup Location
Apple Store, Briarwood
See store hours and get directions
Be sure to bring these items with you:
? A valid, government-issued photo ID
? Your Social Security number
? A debit or credit card

Reserved Items
1
iPhone 4 32GB : Black
$699.00

BUT then in the fine print at the bottom of the email it shows:
Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
I'm also kind of concerned that the price shows 699, I am eligible for a full discount, they should be able to take care of that in store...unless at&t's system is down...again.

I just wonder if I would be wasting my time going in on the 24th? I really don't want to wait in line for hours. maybe I will just go later in the day to skip the line. It does say it will be held until end of business? So confused.

I don't think what we did was a pre-authorization. I
thought when we did, that included a CC. I'm not
sure, but 7am, I will be there.

Below, it also states the following:

Your reservation is valid for pickup only at the Apple Retail Store that you selected.
If you do not collect your selected item(s) by the designated date and time, your reservation will be canceled.

Mine does too (as does a co-worker), but AT&T says I'm eligible, and later on last night when I got through again it showed $199 on the website when I got my number processed. When I get to the store they will check it and reduce it, I'm pretty sure.

My email doesn't even show a price on it - just says:

Reserved Items
1
iPhone 4 32GB : Black

I'm just blown away by the fact that they don't have any sort of personalized system (such as a confirmation number) in the email. My friend reserved last year and he said he called a day before and they verified he was on the list for reserves. He got there - two lines - and was out within 15 minutes after they opened.

I also reserved via the App Store app on my 3GS.

Also, as far as I know, they WILL get the set amount of reserves in that day which they are not allowed to sell for 24 hours. If you don't pick up on launch day - they can sell it the following day. I'm sure that disclaimer at the bottom of the email is just to cover their a$$es in case something would happen and they wouldn't get enough phones out to a store (unlikely).

Last year was nothing. The 3GS didn't excite many. I'd expect crazy lines.

So one A+ upgrade combined with AT&T practically making everyone upgrade eligible...
