    That's what I figured/hoped.

This states AT&T will in fact, not accept debit cards on preorders. That sucks.

I believe they are referring to the buyer entering the pin number for pre order. Debit cards can typically be used as a credit card as long as they have a credit card logo with them.

also, when they say "debit cards can not be used to preorder" i beleive they are referring to "ATM" cards...big difference and since they got one huge error with the "8gb 3G|s|" i wont be surprised if that was also an error because BrianT is correct. As long as u have Visa or Mastercard and can use it as a CC, u should be ok.

I'm pretty sure I read that they are releasing an 8gb 3Gs but it's not very well advertised or something from what I've read. That PDF is legit as far as I know.

I can't imagine that Apple won't have the option to reserve the iPhone for pick-up. They love the hype of lines forming.

AT&T on the other hand... I wouldn't be surprised if reservations weren't allowed. AT&T stores don't get nearly as many units as Apple stores.
ATT has imposed a one gun per person limit. I mean a one iPhone per person limit.

CRU accts have to go thru AT&T. Apple doesn't deal with business accts.

    Here's what I was told:

I called a rep at both Apple and AT&T and spoke to them about pre-ordering my iphone. I am going to be on vacation when the phone is launched, and wanted to be able to go ANYWHERE and pick up my phone. Both reps assured me that I could pre-order my phone at my local AT&T store and pick it up at the AT&T store in the city where I'm going to be on vacation. The Apple rep just suggested that I pre-order my phone through AT&T because he said they can not upgrade me through Apple because I have a family plan - that right now, they can only update single plans. So I'm hoping this is all still the case, because I've already got the address ready of the AT&T store where I want to pick my phone up. I guess I'm going to be making more calls tomorrow.

Well that doesn't make some sense. I would think that local AT&T stores only have a set amount of phones on hand. They can't possibly hold phones for people traveling that day when they can move that inventory locally. I am curious to hear what the local AT&T store tells you where you plan to pick it up from. As a store owner, I would tell you no since I have the local heads to sell to and a limited amount of inventory. I am certainly not going to hold a phone for someone traveling when it's not guaranteed. This assumes you are flying...

I agree...that would be an impossible wish to have a floating device waiting on you where ever you pop up.

I could see that because it will probably come out of the local
store's inventory. The phone is shipped by FedEx and has
your name on it, so if the local store orders and sends it there,
the other store won't be able to do anything, but give him/her
    the phone.

Also can I go to the apple store on the 15th and pay cash for a preorder?

I'm planning to pre-order with apple store pick up. I'm hoping that's available. Picked up the 3GS at the store on launch day and it went really well. I'm too excited to wait in lines with lots of hassles.

Is Apple an online process or do we speak to someone ? I think in my situation, I'm gonna have to speak to someone since I'm doing the early upgrade thing. Do we get a confirmation number ? I wish someone would tell this virgin step by step what to expect ! Any help is appreciated .

Can you walk into a Apple Store and preorder? Or do walkins only have the option to reserve?
