    Like any product, there isn't a set time. It depends on how you treat it really. I have a co-worker who still uses the original iPhone. His battery life must stink however since they wear out over time naturally unless he had it replaced. Just treat it will and it can last a long time, provided it doesn't have an physical failures. Just keep an eye on your battery after about a year and a half or so.

    yea im good with my 3g had it since feb 09...it just seems lately a bit slow on the 3g network like getting emails and stuff...just a bit of lag time

    All I can tell you is that I get exactly one year of use out of mine... I never keep mine longer than that but seriously they are pretty durable. I too still see the original iPhone around and in fine working condition. The battery life may be degraded a bit but it's not bad.

    My daughter has my original iPhone and uses it daily as her main phone. She is 19yo college kid ( so HEAVY user!) and she is just now complaining about battery. I think it's done remarkably well.
