Inactive Iphone in France

Good day everyone... I personally do not own an iPhone but my brother does have a spare iPhone 3g that he no longer uses since he upgraded to his 3GS. I will be soon traveling to France and was wondering if I can get this inactive iPhone and then purchase an Orange (local provider in France) simm card and following apple's online how to on activating this simm card, if it would work being that this phone is not active in the states? Anyone knows if this will work? Thanks again

You'll need to unlock it first in order or it to work with an Orange sim. Check the jaibreak/unlock forum for instructions on how to do this with a 3G.

Hi

Are you going to be living in France or are you just travelling? Just that to get a sim card in France (contract or prepay) your now meant to show your passport or photo id and something with your French address on it like a bank statement.

Yup unlocking will do the trick but I would check on what the requirments are from orange first too.
