I think using a 3G iphone sucks even more. 3GS and new one to choose from. Time to upgrade.

Cannot upgrade till the end of the year. Then my contract is up. By then I'll be able to get the 4G which will be way better then the 3GS.

I just found this. It seems that it can be turned on in a 3G iPhone.

iPhone 4.0 Multitasking on iPhone 3G/iPod touch 2G

The real question is how well will it run? It seems the hardware in the 3G will not able to keep up with multitasking, at least not in a way that runs smoothly.

Yeah I've heard it can be turned on by changine just one line of code but if you enable it the phone will suffer. I am JBen but don't use backgrounder and I can tell you that sometime my phone is so ridiculously slow to respond and when I go into SBSettings and show the processes it has only three of the Apple apps running in the background. So if you have multitasking and you're running 3rd party apps on top of that man I wouldn't want to experience it. If you want to use the function you've just got to upgrade there is no way around it. I'll have my iPad by the time 4.0 drops so I may get a 3Gs once the 4th gen iPhone is out or I might be so happy with the iPad that I'll stick with my 3G and buy a 4th gen next year. I heard the hardware is supposed to be wicked plus higher res

i dont see why the 4.0 cannot be ran on the 3g, if what they say is true, or maybe im understanding it right, but he said if its in the "background" and it doesnt need any data the phone will not give it any, so it will not use an memory? correct..the backgrounder in jailbreak leaves the app open making it seem like your using it...

I have a program on my 3GS that tells how much ram is used. I formerly had a 3G model, which was stock with 128 mb of ram vs 256. The os on the 3g takes it to about 30 mb vs 140-150 mb on the 3GS. The 4.0 os takes it to appx 70-80 mb and each app in the multitasking pane decreases the number by about 7-9 mb. so if you had a 3g, with 30 mb, you could only have say 3 programs running in the background before the memory would be depleted vs the 15-20 programs on the 3GS. That's my take anyway.
