Where can I buy an unlocked Iphone?

I'm in the United States. I'm trying to buy 2 Iphone 3Gs (32g) without contract to be used in another country in Asia for my cousins. I'm hoping you guys can help me answer a few basic questions.

1) Does it need to be 'unlocked' if it's for use in Asia?

2) Where should I start looking to buy at a reasonable price?

3) How much is reasonable?

If you want the top-of-the-line iPhone unlocked, be prepared to spend about $600.00 for each new phone. You may be able to find a used one on eBay for less, but I'd be wary of ripoffs!

make sure the country you're sending it to supports the same frequencies and technologies as a US iphone.

You can also try searching the diff forums and look in their marketplace.
