New iPhone

I bought a unopened iPhone off a friend, once i had registered it through iTunes it came up emergency calls only.
Any ideas what would cause this problem?

Would it be me trying to register the phone to my address which is different than the one she gave once she bought it?

What Carrier are you trying to put the iPhone on?

If you have never owned an Iphone you need to have AT&T activate you sim card for you with an Iphone . Or if you trying to put it on Tmobile you need to jailbreak the phone then hacktivate for use with your sim card .
