Calendar history

Does anyone know what the iPhone does with past calendar items? Giving it a quick glance, it seems like it keeps everything unless manually deleted. I remember my BB had a feature where you could set a cutoff date and everything older than that cutoff would get deleted.

always start in settings for Apple apps. nothing is hidden that you can do

settings- mail, contacts, calendars
scroll to the bottom to the calendar section
see the Sync option

You know initially that's what I thought it was. But my setting is set to one month, and I have items in my calendar going back to August.
