3G or 3GS...how do you tell

My brother bought an iphone and thought it was a 3gs...now he's not sure. how can you tell?

Check

check to see if it has the compass, or click on the camera and see if it has a video option.

If it's a 3GS, then the lettering that spells "iPhone" on the back will be shiny. Checking for video option is probably easier though if he has a case on it.

ummm maybe because he bought off another person it didn't have the original box or even better maybe he bought it off a schister who put a 3G in a 3GS box....think out of the box

The most accurate way to verify your brother has a 3Gs is by going to Settings - General - About - and then scroll down until you see a model number. Google the model number, then you will know what you have

Only difference is the 3gs has video voice command and a compass. And larger versions. I just have a 8gb 3g model. Works great.

My father bought 2 when he was in New york. It was an electrical shop. He got ripped off big time. was told the phone wasn't out in the UK yet and it was the new one in the states. He bought 2 and paid ?400 each. Yep, he's gutted too. But he was under the impression that you couldn't get the phones unlocked in the UK. They're on Tmobile

Your first clue should have been that it says 8GB on the back on the phone. The 3G S only comes in 16 and 32GB models.

Ouch...that sucks.
