I am a new iphone user (16gb 3g). After installing about 1400 songs (mp3's) and 13 apps to the phone i find that I can no longer add more songs. Whenever I try to add songs i get a message telling me the iphone is full. Checking capacity in iTunes under the Summary tab reveals the following:
This is just a guess but Apps is the installation not the data associated with the Apps. So other is probably data ie. Notes, files associated with Email, etc.
Like I said that is just my guess but it could be data you have stored in some app??
a coworker of mine recently had his phone do this same thing. on an 8gb 3g, he had over 4 gigs of other. i told him to do a restore from a backup, and the other went away. now its down to the normal 300-400 mb.

Correct, a restore is pretty much the only way to fix this issue. I'd even go as far as saying to restore as new.
I have seen this bug on friends iPhones and iPods. I don't know what causes it, but I do know that everyone else is correct, a restore will fix the issue.
OK... this seems weird. I had posted the first image in a "How much space do you have free" thread and there was no Other usage at all. After the post, I did some clean up (mainly deleting unused apps) and then found that I had over 2 GB of Other! I didn't really keep track, but I don't think I deleted more than 15 apps, none of which were monsters. Any thoughts?
