Displaying date and time of a text?

On my previous (old school) phone, it was often helpful for me to note the time that a particular text came through. I could check each and every incoming or sent message's details, to see the date and time. With the iPhone, the date and time seems to appear only above certain texts, such as those that came in after a delay. But what if I want to know the exact time of a text that is within an active conversation, therefore, no display of date/time? Is there a special way to reveal this? Thank you!

since the iphone uses Threaded messages it just date stamps the ones that begin a series of text . Example , you send a text and you go back and forth for 10 text , the first text will have the date stamp and the following 10 will not . When you send or receive a new text say maybe an hour later that will have a new date stamp .
