- im not sure if i can talk about the ipod touch here
but my local shop can never get a iphone in and the only reason i want it from that shop is because i have a traded things into a shop and can buy anything from there from a certain price
and the iphone they just increased the price even more and they dont even get any in stock
so i was thinking about getting a ipod touch instead
i already have a phone and a ipod touch would be a good addition to it
and if anybody could help me with things like
what are the differences between ipod touch 2nd gen and 3rd gen?
and graphically how much different is it to the iphone 3gs?
would there be a newer ipod touch comming soon? ps i only want a 8 or 16gb at most
is there some games that can only be played on iphone and not the ipod touch
and also if i get a ipod touch with the new firmware in it can i restore it back and jailbreak it?
also if there is any other big differences between the iphone and ipod touch please note it here
thanks09-29-2009 12:34 PMLike 0 -
- I don't own an iPod Touch, but have been keeping tabs on it for others. I do have an iPhone 3GS though. So my info is not comprehensive, and may be inaccurate. FWIW.
3rd gen has a faster processor and better graphics capabilities. It comes with the earbuds with remote/volume control/mic, I believe.
It's the same as the iPhone 3GS
There are only rumors of a "3rd gen" with a camera, since this one didn't come with one. I haven't seen any speculation on a release date, or if it's even true. Typically, the new iPods mostly come out in the September time frame.
My father-in-law had an iPod Touch 2nd gen and loved it, except for the fact that he wanted the data connection everywhere. So he just bought an iPhone 3GS. I would tend to agree with him. I do like how thin the iPod Touch is though.
Hopefully this helps.09-29-2009 04:38 PMLike 0 -

There is no email client on the iPod Touch
There is no Maps application on the iPod Touch
There are no Stocks or Weather widgets on the iPod Touch
There is no built-in camera for the iPod Touch
There are no Blutooth capabilities for the iPod Touch
The iPod Touch has a differently styled "Dock," with a reflective surface -- akin to the Dock that will debut with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
While the iPod Touch is sleeping, the user can tap the home button twice to bring up touch controls on the screen -- a feature the iPhone currently lacks
The iPod Touch has a separate Contacts app -- it's built into the Phone application on the iPhone
The iPod Touch has separate Video and Music apps, whereas the iPhone has a single "iPod" app that contains these functions
There is apparently (and obviously) no microphone on the iPod Touch, though it will be interesting to see if such audio-in capabilities could be enabled via a third-party device.
The iPod touch's headphone jack is on the bottom of the device
The iPod touch lacks a built-in external speaker
The iPod touch's screen appears to be of a slightly higher quality than the iPhone, with 163 pixels per inch to the iPhone's 160 pixels per inch.04-20-2010 02:01 AMLike 0 -
- Actually the 3rd Gen iPod touch does have:
email client
maps app
stocks & weather (although I could do without)
Bluetooth
and external speaker.
The email and the ability to use this as a PDA thanks to wifi and google sync is why I ditched my BB and made the jump. Although after a week I am ready for a full fledged iPhone; just need to keep telling myself that I can wait until the end of summer when I have an upgrade.04-20-2010 03:43 PMLike 0
