For those that have upgraded to 3.1, do you notice any improvement in battery life or is it about the same? If you've noticed improvement are you jailbroken? Any other observsations or comments about 3.1 and battery life?

It's probably a bit too early to tell but it seems the same. No better, no worse.

    two things changed since yesterday.

    I have wifi off
    I upgraded to 3.1

I used approx 20% of my battery at work today vs the normal approx 40%

let's see if that holds up.

I'm about the same as everyone else. I charged this morning to 100% at about 9am and have been listening to music through ipod all day with a few calls, some web surfing-non wifi, and a few apps. Now at 84%. By this time i'm usually at 30% getting ready to charge before the ride home. So far so good. If i get imporved battery life, the update was well worth it no matter what else it does.

I have noticed massive improvement over 3.0.

Since updating yesterday, my iPhone runs much cooler and is more responsive.

Before the update I would use between 40-60% of my battery every day - and to be honest, I was barely even using it - a few texts, some light surfing and about 2 hours listening to podcasts.

I have put it through its paces today by downloading a 200MB eBook via WiFi, surfing the iTunes store and the app store, making a few long calls and about 1 hour of the iPod. So far I have barely used 30% of my battery.

    Paint me happy

Update: Forgot to mention... I'm not jailbroken - just a plain old iPhone 3G.

Much, much better for me. I use it primarily to make calls, light web browsing, and playing games (actually, it's my son who plays the games). Typically, that use would drop me to 50% or below in a day. Yesterday, after downloading 3.1, I unplugged from the charger at 6:00 am, made several calls, played some games, and did some light 3G surfing, then left it on standby overnight (unplugged), and at the moment (8:00 am) I am at 74%. Phone shows 1 hr 10 minutes of use and 1 day, 1 hour of standby time.

Hmm... Thats not very much usage at all... i think the guage is usually around 4.5 hours of actual usage to deplete the battery... I go through 4 hours of usage before 8pm...

I look at it like this:

I am at 74%, which means I've used up 26% of the charge.

Apple says you get 300 hours of standby time -- so every 3 hours of standby time is approximately a 1% drop in battery life. Since I had 25 hours of standby time, that's a little more than 8% battery loss.

That means that for 1 hour and 10 minutes of actual usage time, I only used 18% of the battery. That translates into ~389 minutes of usage time, if I used it from the moment I disconnected it from the charger until the moment it died -- 6+ hours. That satisfies me!

I'm not jailbroken, and I haven't noticed any differences in the battery life. It still sucks.

Maybe I spoke too soon. In the past couple of charge cycles, I am only getting about 4 hours of use, no matter what type of use it is. Very frustrating.

Wow, I REALLY spoke too soon! In the three hours since taking it off the charger this morning, I've dropped 7% in battery life. And that's with no use whatsoever! I show 3 minutes of usage and 3.5 hours of standby time, and I am down to 93%. Jeez.

Do you have PUSH notifications off? Try disabling all PUSH and FETCH... not to mention location services.

    See if that helps.

    You have the 3GS, right?

Battery life is considerably worse since upgrading. Took my phone off the charger and in less than 3 hours it's dropped 8% with absolutely no use. Before upgrading it might drop 1 or 2% in that much time. What's up with this? Should have left it jailbroken with the 3.0.1!

I have noticed my battery life is about the same, maybe a little better, I have push on, wifi on all the time, surf, email, text all day, twitter checked about 1/hr, and I unplug at 8am-ish, and usually have about 30-40% at 10pm, when it goes back on the charger. 3GS-not jailbroken.

nu_D, yes, I have the 3GS. And I have EVERYTHING off -- Fetch, push, Bluetooth, WiFi, location services, the whole gamut. I am really surprised how poor my battery life has suddenly become.

Might be time for a trip to the Apple store . . . .

there is a clear chart showed the battery conditions about iphone,3G,3GS and other phones in CNET. but it seems that the information is not accurate, in my opinion.
