Download symbol in front of mail, phone and safari icons.

Sorry that this is an odd question, but efforts to research the problem have been fruitless so far.

The phone, mail and safari icons on my phone now have a little sunburst like symbol in the lower left corner (I think it is the download/loading symbol). Anyone know what that means? I have never seen that before and it was just in front of the mail and phone icon initially, now it is in front of the safari icon. I have rebooted and the symbol disappeared. Now it is in front of the phone, mail and Ipod icons again.

I'd post a picture, but this is my first post so I can't.

edit: I figured out the problem. The image is a "badge" used by the program "backgrounder". Of course now that I know what it is I see it has been discussed ad nauseum. I guess I was using the wrong search terms. My bad.
