I bought a new PC and after installing Itunes and transfering my library from my old laptop PC. I tried to sync my phone (3G). Nothing happens when I plug in the phone...it locks up the computer and the phone. No normal sync, the phone is not recognized. However, the phone will sync with my crappy laptop. I contacted Apple, the tech was clueless and suggested I disable my antivirus software (CA antivirus suite) and try again. This is after the tech forced me to make a new apple account and restored the phone (I lost all of my data! i.e. texts and other important things)I'm not excited about putting my virus guard down. What can I do? I'm not sure where the problem is and what I should try. PLEASE HELP!!!!

    P.S.
The phone is legit (not jailbroke), the carrier is AT&T.
My phone will not sync. I'm about to have a breakdown. I need my music on my phone!

Have you at least tried to disable you anti-virus to see if it worked? And what version of Windows are you currently running?

I think that your problem may be "transfering my library from my old laptop PC." I would have installed iTunes on the new computer and then immediately synched the iPhone, using the iPhone to move my libraries.

Try uninstalling and re-installing iTunes and then syncing the iPhone.

you can't sync non-itunes media to a new computer from any apple device, only itunes store items.

this is now always an option.

reinstalling itunes may be the answer. if nothing is only on the phone that you would lose and/or you have a backup of the phone also try a hard restore and setup the phone from new from the backup on the new computer

I haven't tried to disable the anti-virus, I will when I get home. The new PC is XP pro currently with add-on discs to get to Vista. (I've never see/done that) Maybe I should bump the system up to Vista.

    I tried:

Itunes installed first, then moved the music, then sync = locked up phone (no sync)
    then...
    uninstalled Itunes (recovered the computer)
    then..
Moved music, then install itunes, then locked up my phone (no sync)

To be honest, I prefer to move music, and then install itunes. itunes basically found all music and put it in itunes....pretty seemlessly.

I feel like I need to add....

after the phone was locked up several times repeatedly, it had to be restored from a different computer. (which deleted most of my precious data) but good news is, the phone can be used again. (text, call, ect.) So now I dont have any music on my phone. and still wont sync.

Apple did however resend all purchased music to my itunes
(I bought music from my phone)
they will do it...only if....you raise enough hell.

Thanks for taking a stab at my problem guys...

check what other programs are running in the background besides your anti-virus. there may be something running that's causing a conflict with itunes. any p2p or stupid little utility (weatherbug, extra sound panel, windows media player, etc.) can cause it not to work correctly, and even though it didn't on your old PC, due to some driver/software conflict.

You could even try closing everything in your system tray that isn't a critical process.

Good idea. I'll check that out.

Since you haven't mentioned it yet, have you authorized your new computer yet with iTunes? If not, click on Store, then Authorize Computer. If you've not done that yet, that might be the problem. When I got my new laptop last summer, I had the same issue, couldn't sync or do anything, then remembered I had to authorize the new laptop and then everything worked just fine. I think you're allowed up to 5 different computers to authorize your iTunes account on, so you don't have to deauthorize your older computer first.

Again, not sure if this is the issue, but that's the only other thing I can think of. I don't know why any anti-virus would keep your iPhone from syncing. If you've authorized your new computer and thing the anti-virus is still the issue, just disable it or uninstall your anti-virus software. You should be pretty safe as long as you don't open any suspicious e-mail, visit some less-than-reputable websites, or download porn. Once you discover if the anti-virus software is or isn't the issue, you can always reinstall it.

If you haven't solved your issue yet, I hope this helps. If not, I wish you luck.
