I'm currently debating upgrading to a 3GS, but being the lazy person that I am, I can't be bothered with manually transferring all my data, contacts, apps etc across.

So my question is, can iTunes do this for me at all? I.E. if I back up my 3G & then plug in a 3GS & 'restore', will it copy the data across?

Hope that makes sense & hope you can help. Thanks!

That is how it works! Jiao plug the new phone in and follow the instructions. Very easy!

If you're buying a 3GS and want to keep the same phone number as your 3G, do you have to bring in your 3G? I'm asking because mine is jailbroken and I'd have to go through the trouble of restoring it back to normal before bringing it in to the apple store...

if your up for an upgrade you don't need to bother giving them your 3g, just the sim card. You've paid for it, it's yours! Unless you were trying to do an exchange within your first 30 days.

    I've moved iphones twice

go in to an att store, they will move the SIM to your new phone (unless its a 2g sim), update the IMEI of the phone the sim is associated with and you keep both phones

you have the option of getting a new SIM also.

When I buy the 3GS and my 3G becomes deactivated, will I still be able to jailbreak/unlock the 3G?

yes and you can use it as an ipod or activate it on another network but it will need a sim card unless you get a new one for your 3gs
