iPhone speaker won't ring anymore when the earbuds are plugged in

Prior to the 3.0 upgrade, I would leave my earbuds plugged in and leave them on the seat next to me. I was able to hear the ringer through the speaker and answer any calls after placing the earbud in my ear. Now, the ringer only sounds through the earbuds. Any ideas?

just tested my 3GS and with the earbuds plugged in I can still hear it ring through the speakers. I also looked for some type of setting for this but found none. I think you might be experiencing a "bug" turn you phone off and then on again and see if that helps. I do not know if there is anything else short of a soft reset that may help.
