Two iPhones - One Sim??

I tired putting the sim card from my 3Gs back into my 2G this weekend so I could use it why I was doing some landscaping without getting my dirty hands all over my shining new 3Gs, but when I did it said I needed to connect to iTunes to activate it. I didn't want to proceed thinking that may deactivate the 3Gs? Can I have both models activated with one sim?

Thanks,

Yes no problem. I have activated my iPhones with someone elses sim so I didn't have to fetch mime at the moment. It doesn't matter. Just activate an them swap at will. I currently swap my blackberry sim with my 3G.
