Why are backups so incredibly slow?

My 16Gb, 3.0, 3G phone with only about 6Gb of data takes seemingly forever to back up? It literally can take hours. Am I the only having this difficulty? It has gone on forever, but thought I would trow it out to see what was the norm.

Re: backup

It usually takes about 5-10 minutes for me, though first sync takes longer. I noticed that the time varies depending on how many apps i have installed.

I had a similar problem with my first backup after installing 3.0. After nearly 3 hours, I cancelled the backup (click the x in top right corner) as no data had changed since the previous backup. After this, my backups generally take 3 minutes although I do have occasional long ones. About a year ago, I had huge backup times and regularly cancelled that part of the process with no ill effects.
